The Bayport-Blue Point Public Schools Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Lorie Beard as the new principal of Academy Street Elementary School, beginning in the 2023-24 school year.
Most recently, Ms. Beard served as principal of Long Beach Middle School since 2019. Prior to that, she served as Long Beach Middle School’s vice principal.
Throughout her career, Ms. Beard has established herself as a strong leader who fosters positive relationships and learning environments with families, students, faculty and staff. Under her leadership, the school developed initiatives to support the social and emotional well-being of students and staff, coordinated school/community programs such as a community book club, and developed resources to support classroom instruction.
Additionally, Ms. Beard has been an instructional coach at Northwest Elementary School in Amityville and an English language arts instructional coach with Western Suffolk BOCES. She began her career as a classroom teacher, teaching English language arts, social studies and mathematics at both Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School and Oldfield Middle School.
Notably, Ms. Beard is the co-president of the Nassau County Middle School Principals’ Association, is a part of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Association for Middle Level Education, the New York State Reading Association and the New York State English Council.
She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Adelphi University, a Masters in English Education from LIU Post and a Masters in Literacy from Dowling College. She also completed SUNY Stony Brook’s certificate program in School Building/School District Leadership.
