On Aug. 28, Bayport-Blue Point held several new student orientations in preparation for the first day of school on Sept. 4.
James Wilson Young Middle School Principal Ms. Westerlund welcomed incoming sixth graders and explained to students what they could expect during their first year and time at the middle school. After the introductory remarks, students explored the building, located their classrooms and tried out their lockers for the first time. Donning yellow Bayport-Blue Point T-shirts, older students assisted the sixth graders in finding their classrooms and answering questions.
At Bayport-Blue Point High School, Principal Mr. Walcott welcomed the freshman class of 2028 and introduced them to members of the administration, the school’s social worker, counselor, class adviser and BBP Connects advisers. The orientation covered topics such as the students’ schedules, the college and career center, what clubs and activities are offered and more.
Following Mr. Walcott, motivational speaker, powerlifter and wrestler Rohan Murphy took the stage, sharing his story of overcoming adversity with a disability and achieving what he was told could not be done. Mr. Murphy stressed the importance of perseverance and determination when it comes to accomplishing one’s goals, leaving students with an inspirational message, “If you want something out of life, go get it.”
Afterward, the class of 2028 also explored their new building, found their classes and asked questions. The district is excited to welcome students back for their first day of school on Sept. 4!
