PTA In Our Schools

What is the PTA? The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is an organization that brings parents and teachers together so they can work towards improving the lives and education of students. Over 6.5 million people belong to PTAs nationwide, making it the largest child-advocacy volunteer association. Simply, a PTA is a group of adults, both men and women, affiliated with a school that have organized to work to help children thrive and learn — whether that means fundraising for school supplies, educating parents, helping teachers, or fighting for legislation to ensure every child gets a high-quality education. What kinds of things does the PTA do at Sylvan? You will recognize many of the following programs/events that are supported and funded through the PTA:
Kindergarten Playdate

  • Reflections

  • Homecoming

  • Family Fun Nights

  • Sylvan’s Got Talent

  • Book Fairs

  • Programs and Assemblies

  • After School Enrichment

  • Sylvan Enhancements

  • Field Day T-Shirts

  • Flag Day

  • Hospitality

  • Staff Appreciation Day

  • Fundraisers

  • and more!

How do I join the PTA? Simply fill out the form at the bottom of the page and return it to school with your child. The membership fee is $10.00 per voting member and $14.00 for 2 voting members in the same household. (Cash or check written out to Sylvan Ave PTA) Return it in an envelope marked “PTA membership.”

Will I have to attend many meetings and volunteer often? The PTA Committee would love for you to attend meetings and volunteer WHEN YOU CAN. The more hands on support we have, the more all of our children benefit. However, it is not mandatory for you to do either. Many of us work full time jobs and have other responsibilities. By simply joining the PTA, you will be showing your support.

How can I get more involved?
Our monthly meetings are posted in our school calendar and reminder notices are sent by e-mail or home in school folders. You can also check the box at the bottom of the form stating that you are interested in volunteering. We have many committees and events that could use your input and support.

We are looking forward to a great school year!
